Widely recognized throughout East Africa as Zuchu, Zuhura Othman Soud is a celebrated Tanzanian singer and songwriter. Born in Zanzibar on November 22, 1993, she currently resides in Dar es Salaam.
Her music career has flourished under the famous WCB Wasafi record label, making her a well-known figure in the music industry.
Zuchu’s musical roots run deep; her mother, Khadija Kopa, is a celebrated taarab artist, and her father, Othman Soud, was a key songwriter for her mother’s group, the influential TOT Band, at the height of its popularity.
Zuchu’s passion for music began at a young age. She even recorded a special song with her mother, “Mauzauza,” which appears on her first EP, “I am Zuchu.” In 2015, she made a significant step in her music journey by performing at Tecno Own The Stage in Lagos, Nigeria, auditioning alongside another talented Tanzanian singer, Nandy.
Zuchu’s rise in the music scene was swift. In July 2020, she made a big splash by gaining over 100,000 YouTube subscribers in just one week, earning her the Silver Plaque Button. She was the first female artist from East Africa to achieve this quickly. Her online presence kept growing, and within eleven months, she hit another milestone, becoming the first East African female artist to reach 1 million subscribers on YouTube.
