With his real name Selemani Jabir Msonjele, he is known by many as Msaga Sumu, hailing from the famous city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

He has made a name for himself as a talented singeli singer and songwriter. Working with Kandoro Baba Entertainment, Msaga Sumu’s lively singeli music has become a sensation online, gaining lots of attention through streams and downloads. One of his most successful songs, “Achi Menengule,” took over the Kenyan music charts and became a major hit in the country.

Msaga Sumu, as a veteran musician of Singeli music, has contributed significantly to the development of the music for about 15 years.

Singeli is a music known for its fast and energetic movements, high-pitched rhythms and fast-paced lyrics.
Msaga Sumu began performing live in 2007 and recorded his first song in 2012. A major achievement in his career was in 2018 when he became the first singeli artist to release a full-length album, titled “Mwanaume Mashine.”

His collection of popular songs includes favorites like “Mama wa Kambo,” “Babu wa Luanga,” “Uswahilini Sihami,” “Unanitega Shemeji,” and “Mwanaume Mashine.” Msaga Sumu is famous for his thrilling live performances, which are enhanced by his producer and DJ, Khalid Khalid, also known as DJ Msolopa. Dedicated to giving back to his community, Msaga Sumu founded the Uswazi Born Talented (UBT) center. Through this initiative, he mentors young, aspiring artists from the streets, earning him the nickname “Mfalme wa Uswahilini” (King of the Street).

Msaga Sumu is currently leading the charge in breaking the mold of “singeli” music, a genre that has become popular in Tanzania and has even been officially recognized as the musical identity of Tanzania.
